CME Blast 8/15/25
Hello amazing CME Community! It's been a great week (despite the lightning dismissal fun) as everyone is starting to get into their routines and the learning has begun!
School Accountability Committee (SAC) - We will be starting our SAC 24/25 very soon! Our first meeting is going to be Monday, Aug. 26 from 4:00-6:00 pm. Meetings will be monthly on Mondays. We are looking for more parents and community members to join us! Bonus…we bring snacks! Here is what you can expect from this committee:
The School Accountability Committee (SAC) is
responsible for advising principals on budget
priorities and the development of school
improvement plans. Put another way, SACs act as
sounding boards for improvement strategies and how
schools and districts spend their money. Another equally
important role of SACs is to increase parent and community
partnerships.
SAC responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Advising the principal concerning the preparation of
the school’s Unified Improvement Plan (UIP).
• Making recommendations to the principal
concerning priorities for spending school funds.
• Gathering and providing information to the principal
on the needs or concerns of the school’s community.
• Helping school staff increase parent partnerships
with teachers, fostering the parents’ role in creating
students ’READ plans as well as habitual truancy.
• Helping school staff increase the level of overall
parent engagement with the school.
• Assisting the district in implementing it’s Parent
Engagement Policy [at the school level].
• Working to recruit people to serve on the SAC.
Campus Security Specialist - As you may know, with the passing of the mill levy last year, all elementary schools in the district were provided funds for a full time campus security specialist. This position was filled here at CME, but unfortunately, it did not work out. With that said, we are now looking for a new Campus Security Specialist. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please reach out to me ([email protected]). It would be a perfect opportunity for someone who might be retired law enforcement or interested in law enforcement in the future, but not necessary as there will be full training through our district security for this position. Competitive pay and benefits are included! In the meantime, we would love to have people who are interested in our Watch D.O.G.S program sign up! This is a volunteer program that helps to bring strong male role models into our building as well as providing an extra set of eyes. Not to mention, your children love seeing dad, grandpa, or uncle at school! Can you say celebrity status?! So use some of your PTO and come hang with the coolest kids around!
First Day of School for Kindergarten - On Monday we welcomed our Kindergarteners for their first day of school. There was so much excitement in the air here with our little Cougars! They had a blast going to recess and getting to eat lunch in the cafeteria. Ms. Kolbo and Ms. O were happy and exhausted by the end of the day! I had some fun out at recess with these cuties and we got to do some Kindergarten selfies which I am including because who doesn’t want a little Kindie Kuteness!
Back to School Night - Our fantastic PTO is putting on a Back to School night for our community tomorrow night (Friday, 8/16) from 5:00-8:00 pm. There will be all kinds of fun family activities out on our field! The class with the most participation will win a pizza party. Hopefully you can all come join us!
Dogs - Please remember that dogs are not allowed on campus as per DCSD District policy. Thank you for your cooperation.
Crosswalks - When arriving or leaving, please use the crosswalks (one on WIndridge and one on Poston) to go across the street. We have seen many people (including kids alone) walking across the street without supervision. Safety is our top priority here at CME and we don’t want to see anyone get hurt. We are asking that the adults set an example for our students to use the crosswalks consistently even if it is out of the way a bit.
