News from Candice!

Hello friends! Spring is definitely in the air. I have really enjoyed the last few days of mild weather. I am starting to hear about some of the great trips you all have planned for Spring Break! I am going on a mountain biking trip to Moab and I can’t wait. I wish you all safe travels next week and we will see you all back here rested and refreshed to finish the year strong.

Anxious Generation Book Study - After Spring Break, we will be offering parents an opportunity to come together to discuss the book, The Anxious Generation.

The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness by Jonathan Haidt explores the sharp rise in anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles among young people. Haidt argues that this crisis is largely driven by two major societal shifts:

The Decline of Independent Childhood – Over the past few decades, children have had fewer opportunities for free play, exploration, and risk-taking. Increased parental supervision and safety concerns have limited kids' ability to develop resilience and independence.
The Rise of Smartphones and Social Media – The rapid adoption of smartphones and social media, especially since the early 2010s, has drastically altered how children and teenagers interact, leading to increased screen time, social comparison, cyberbullying, and disrupted sleep patterns.

Haidt refers to this shift as the "Great Rewiring of Childhood", arguing that it has fundamentally changed how young people grow up. He presents research linking these changes to the explosion of mental health problems, particularly among Gen Z. His book is a call to action for parents, educators, and policymakers to rethink how we raise children in the digital age.

The dates and times will be April 1st, April 29th, and May 13th from 6:00pm - 7:00pm . If you are interested in joining, grab a copy of the book and mark your calendars. I am excited to see how we can come together as a small community to support our kiddos!
