Hello CME Families! I can’t believe it is already October. We hope to see you this Friday at our Donuts with Grownups event brought to you by PTO. Yesterday our Kindergarteners went on their first field trip and they were just so excited! It was so adorable!


Our Copper Mesa Glo For A Cause: A Cougar Dance Party is coming - Get excited – our school is hosting the Copper Mesa Glo For A Cause: A Cougar Dance Party at the end of our fundraiser on 10/30/2024! This school-wide event is sure to be an unforgettable experience for all students. All students are invited to attend, regardless of financial participation.

Fall Conferences - We have conference week next week, October 7-11. Hopefully you have signed up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher. Our teachers work hard to prepare for these so they can provide you with data and information in a short amount of time. :) See you all next week!

 

Fire Prevention Week - Next week is Fire Prevention Week! We are working with South Metro Fire Rescue to build awareness with our students. The theme this year is Smoke Alarms: Make them WORK for you! A big shout out and thank you to one of our parents, Beth Bales, whose State Farm business made a donation to provide materials to our school! Thank you, Beth!

 

Apple Awards - You will find the 2024-2025 Apple Award Nomination link LIVE on our school's page on the FoundationDCS.org website. The 2024-2025 Apple Award Nomination window will be open from Monday October 1, 2024 through Sunday November 11, 2024. We invite our DCSD students, teachers, staff and community to join us in nominating their favorite teacher(s), principal, classified employee and department employee. We love getting your nominations to show our staff the love! We hope you will take a quick moment to shout out the outstanding work we see at CME everyday!

 

Art is Awesome - If you are walking through the halls of CME, you may see some eyes watching you. Check out the picture below of the beautiful art our 1st graders made with Ms. Burke! So cute!

GIFT IDENTIFICATION PROCESS:

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 6th grade in November. If your child is in grades 3, 4 or 5 and you believe they need evaluation for Gifted Identification, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process. Please see HERE for more details and reach out to Heather Stinnet, the CME Gifted and Talented Coordinator, with any questions.

 

BASE ART PROGRAM:

Hello Copper Mesa! BASE is excited to sponsor a 6 week art club with Kristin from My Art Workshop. She has a variety of fall-themed art projects for the kids that will start this coming Thursday, October 10th. Students must be registered in BASE and signed up for Thursday afternoons to participate ($15 per day). Each class with Kristin will be an additional $10 and run from 3:45-4:30 pm. Students enrolled for the day will be able to come to BASE at 3:30 and may stay until 6:00 pm.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS:

Does your child love to read and remember details from books? Does your child work well in small groups? Is your child up for the challenge of answering quiz type questions about books?

 

If so…Come join the Copper Mesa Elementary Battle of the Books Club!!

When: Most Fridays, beginning November 1st at 7:45 a.m.

Where: Mrs. Hollist’s Classroom

Why: To gather information and receive grade level book list (10 books)

Battles will be held at the Lone Tree Library on a weeknight evening, once a week starting around the last week of January. The official schedule will be posted around Thanksgiving break.

Each child who wants to battle will have to commit to reading 8 of the 10 books on the list. We will talk more about ‘expert books’ as we continue.
