Dear Copper Mesa Community,
It’s been wonderful to hear about your summers, mostly from your kiddos, but also from talking to several of you. We also had a wonderful summer, traveling in our fifth wheel to many campgrounds in Colorado and Utah. Several of you also asked if my daughter was married yet, and that is happening this upcoming April.

LIGHTNING DISMISSAL
It’s that time of year that I would like to take a moment to review our lightning dismissal policy. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, it is critical to follow a lightning dismissal protocol if lightning is present in the area at the end of our school day. You will receive an email, a pre-recorded telephone call, and a text message informing you of the lightning dismissal.
If a lightning dismissal is called, the following will occur:
-
If your child goes to BASE, they will go straight there from their classrooms. You will not need to come to school to get them. If it is difficult to get here right after school, it is free to sign up for BASE so you could have that as a backup. You only have to pay for BASE when you use it!
We will call a lightning dismissal as soon as we know that lightning is in the area and close enough that it is unsafe. As soon as lightning dismissal is called, please come to school.
Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students safe.
SAC MEMBERS
We are gearing up for our first School Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of the year in September and we are looking for new members to join our SAC group. The purpose of the SAC is to inform, encourage and provide opportunities for parents and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes. The SAC makes recommendations concerning the school’s Performance Plan and meets at least quarterly to discuss the implementation of the school’s plan and other progress pertinent to the school’s accreditation contract with the Board of Education. Final decision-making authority rests with the principal or other person or group receiving the recommendation from the SAC (e.g., The Superintendent, District Accountability Committee (“DAC”), or Board of Education).
If you are interested in serving on SAC, please email me a short paragraph as to why you are interested. We will then send out a SAC ballot to our community for all interested SAC members. All community members are invited to attend our meetings.
DOGS ON CAMPUS
Just a reminder that per district policy, dogs are not allowed on school grounds. This includes when you drop off and pick up your kids. I love dogs as much as the next person, but you never know how they will react when around other people or which kids may be allergic to them. Thank you for adhering to this reminder.
iREADY
Fall iReady diagnostic testing will begin next week. A little bit about iReady:
iReady allows our teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. iReady consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction. The iReady Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. iReady Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill levels and needs, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn.
WATCH DOG DADS
A huge thank you to CMEA for creating a new Watch Dog calendar for this year. We had our first Watch Dog Dad on Tuesday and I shared during announcements how I would love to have more dads participate as a Watch Dog Dad this year. You can sign up for a half day or a full day. Sign up below:
