News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

Welcome to the 2023/24 school year!! It’s been a wonderful beginning.. We have many new families joining us this year. When Candice and I visited classrooms on Tuesday and asked if the class had any new students, it seemed every class had at least one new kiddo!! I even met a student who lived in the same area where I was born and we were both born in the same hospital in Newport Beach. Welcome to all of our new CME families!

I look forward to once again writing a weekly blast to keep you informed of all the happenings at Copper Mesa. New this year, CMEA will also be including their weekly blast with mine.

This is one way to communicate, and I am always available to answer any questions you may have about anything CME! Just email me or call our school office and I will get back to you!

Our Thinking Map for this first week of school is a: Circle Map and next week it is a Bubble Map.

We have revised our PRIDE Skills to better align with the Colorado Essential Skills we are asked to teach. Our PRIDE Skill for this week is: Problem Solver and next week it is: Critical Thinking

This week I will just mention a few things as it is the first week of school:

  • The Invisible Boy

  • Art

  • Kindergarten

THE INVISIBLE BOY

Each year we select a theme book and each teacher receives a copy of the book as well as many other staff members. Our theme book for this year is called, “The Invisible Boy” by Trudy Ludwig. This gentle story shows how small acts of kindness can help children feel included and allow them to flourish! It is a wonderful story and we are excited to have this as our theme book this year.

ART

I am also excited to share that our kiddos will have 10 extra minutes of art each week this year. Mrs. Tauro, our wonderful art teacher, is thrilled about the extra 10 minutes. I can’t wait to see the projects the students create as Mrs. Tauro does an awesome job of displaying them throughout our building.

KINDERGARTEN

I have loved seeing our kindergarten students come to school in small groups the first two days of school. With smiles on their faces, they are coming to Copper Mesa for the first time with so much enthusiasm and maybe just a little trepidation! Well, for some of our kindies, they were here for preschool as well, so they are already used to our building. Our two amazing kinde teachers, Mrs. Osowski and Mrs. Kolbo have been so welcoming and already loving on them!! Thank you kindie parents for entrusting your kiddos to Copper Mesa!!

As Candice and I shared at our Meet and Greet afternoon in the gym on Monday, this is going to be the BEST YEAR EVER!!
