News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

I wonder if this is my first ever blast sent home on a leap year? An extra day this month, a snow squall Tuesday, my daughter’s bridal shower and I learned a new way to use “word” this week. It’s been quite the week!!

Our PRIDE Skill for next week is: Flexibility

This week I will mention the following:

  • Spirit Day

  • SAC

  • Spring Conferences

  • Choir

  • Bald Eagles

  • Classified Appreciation

  • Socks

SPIRIT DAY

Our Student Leadership Council (SLC) decided that our next Spirit Day will be tomorrow. It will be Wacky/Wild Hair or Hat Day! I can’t wait to see all of the hats and wild and wacky hair tomorrow. The class that has the highest participation will carry the Spirit Stick until the next Spirit Day which I hear will be around St. Patrick’s Day!

SAC

We had our February School Accountability Committee (SAC) meeting on Monday. We had some wonderful discussions and I wanted to give our SAC group a huge shout-out. Our SAC is made up of parents, staff, and a community member. They have the best interest of Copper Mesa in mind during our meetings.

SPRING CONFERENCES

Can you believe spring conferences are just around the corner? We just sent home an email yesterday so you can sign up for a time. Conferences will be held the week of March 11th. I hope you all sign up for a time as conferences are a wonderful time to hear about how awesome your kids are and their goals for the remainder of the year. I also encourage you to meet with our Specials teachers and our personalized learning team!

CHOIR

Speaking of Specials teachers, a huge shout out to Ms. Abby Muller for working with our students in the choir. Tuesday morning I was meeting with a teacher and I could hear the choir singing in the room next door. They sounded wonderful. I hope our choir students continue to sing as they move into middle school and beyond!!

BALD EAGLES

My wife works from home most days and she will often have the TV tuned into a pair of bald eagles. On Monday I received an email from a former CME parent sharing the link to watch the eagles. I also forwarded the link to our kindie and first-grade teachers. I hear three eggs should be hatching soon. Check it out if you have time!

CLASSIFIED APPRECIATION

Yesterday morning we honored our classified staff in the library with some breakfast items and a little treat. I shared with them that our school is such an awesome place in huge part because of all of them. It was so cool to have them all together and have some time to chat with each other as they are normally working with small groups of students, one-on-one with a kiddo, serving food, cleaning the cafeteria, working with our littlest students or answering phones and greeting people in the office. I am so thankful for every classified staff member!!

SOCKS

Just had to end this week’s blast with a cool pair of socks a student wore yesterday. I love the school spirit our staff and students display.

Have a great weekend - “Word”

HEART CHALLENGE -

Kids Heart Challenge at Copper Mesa Elementary is nearing its end, but there's still time to reach our goal! We've raised $11,869 donations towards our $10,000 goal, and we hope all students will join the team! So far, 142 students have already joined, and 24 students have completed Finn’s Mission, entering them into the NFL Sweepstakes for Super Bowl 2025 tickets!

Have you reached your Kids Heart challenge goal?
One last week to sign up, donate, or get a donation and complete Finn’s Mission. It’s a great time to send one final reminder to friends and family who will want to support you.

Download the app for iPhone or Android, or register online: http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=9733&pg=company&company_id=438111.

Any student who raises $50 will qualify to purchase discounted tickets and get a special ON COURT experience with the Denver Nuggets! The classes who earn the most money and have the highest online participation will earn a free play day in PE! AND when you complete Finn's Mission, you can attend a special pizza party with Mr. Novak!!! When students raise $150, they will get to turn Mr. Novak into a Human Disco Ball with glitter slime!!!

Congratulations to the following students who have already earned our school’s challenge: Charlotte B , Christian G , Greyson F , Maddox N , Hadley P , Paxton T , Mila D , Marlow H , Caleb M , Tristan S , Davis C , Ayden C , Griffin O , Gavin C , Warren L , Noah S , Skyler H , Adam H , Sophia N , Joshua M , Cameron N , Benson O , Jack G , Riley B , Cary Q.

One more way to be a lifesaver:
Stroke is a major cause of death and disability. Acting quickly is critical. Protect your family by learning to spot a stroke as part of Finn’s Mission. Log into your Kids Heart Challenge page and click on the Stroke Quiz then click “share” to send the video.

Don’t forget: You can double your gift by checking to see if your employer will match your donation. Follow the steps and forward the confirmation to [email protected] to have this added to the student’s fundraising page. (https://www2.heart.org/site/SPageNavigator/aha_matchpro_landing.html)
