News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

My wife always says that fall is her favorite season and with the weather we have had recently, I definitely agree!!

Our THINKING MAP for next week is: Multi-Flow Map (Cause and Effect)

Our PRIDE SKILL for next week is: Resilient

This week I will mention the following:

  • Color Run

  • SAC

  • Lockdown Drill

  • Choir

  • PD Day

COLOR RUN

Wow, Ms. Laviaguere and I had an amazing time having all of our students douse us with color on Monday afternoon. While I still had some color coming out of my ears and nose the next day, it was a blast. It appeared that our students were having fun too. All because we surpassed our goal during our recent Booster fundraiser!! We then had the top 10 earners pour some water on us!! Check out some photos below. Hmmm, what will next year bring??

SAC

We had our first SAC meeting of the year on Monday afternoon. A huge shout out to our returning SAC members as well as our four new members. We discussed many items, such as our iReady and CMAS data, facts about the upcoming Bond/Mill Levy, and the election of officers.

LOCKDOWN DRILL

We had our first of two lockdown drills on Wednesday morning for the year. During a staff meeting that morning our district security personnel went over procedures and details and then at 9:30, we conducted the drill. Our security personnel and Douglas County Sherrifts shared that our staff and students did an outstanding job!

CHOIR

Ms. Muller, our excellent music teacher, has already begun working with our students in the choir. She has a record turnout of choir members and I am so excited to listen to their first performance soon. Something to mark on your calendars is when they sing during our lunch blocks, on November 10th, when we honor our Veterans. Never too early to invite our Veterans to lunch on that day!

PD DAY

Tomorrow, while your children are sleeping in, playing with their friends, and hanging out with you for an extended weekend, our teachers will be busy diving into some writing training. These Professional Development Days (PD Days) are so useful to our teachers as they have time to learn, work with their colleagues, and plan lessons to best meet the needs of all of our CME students!

Have a wonderful long weekend. Looks like another beautiful one!

COFFEE CART -

We run a coffee cart at our school that is put on by our Significant Support Needs Program (SSN). We have the Coffee Cart every Thursday morning from 8:15-9:15. We serve all staff around the school hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and seasonal items. We also have fresh baked goods that we serve to the staff as well.

We would like to open it up to families to purchase Coffee Cards ($20 for 11 beverages) and Baked Good Cards ($10 for 10 slices of baked goods) for staff all around the school. You are able to do this through MySchoolBucks and make a note for who the card(s) are for.

The Coffee Card raises money for the SSN program as well as for Freedom Service Dogs. Last year we raised over $400 for this organization. We are hoping to reach a goal of over $500 this school year. Thank you for all the support to give our students success!
