News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

Gosh, we are being spoiled by this beautiful Fall this season. Did any of you brave the traffic to go leaf-peeping yet? I’m hearing this weekend will be the peak time. If you don’t make it to the mountains, I’d suggest walks around town as it is beautiful down here too!!

Our PRIDE Skill for next week is: Risk Taking

This week I will discuss the following:

  • Birthday Invitations

  • Crosswalks

  • 6th Graders

  • Conferences

BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS

Just a reminder that when one of your kiddos has a birthday coming up and you are planning on sending out invitations, they must be given to each student in the class if passed out at school. You can understand the importance of every student receiving one in the class. This only applies to invitations being passed out at school. Thank you!

CROSSWALKS

Another reminder is that at our crosswalk on Griggs and Poston before and after school you must wait until the students and crossing guards are on the sidewalks before turning or going straight in your car. We have had too many close calls and the safety of our staff and students is always our top priority! We had a Sheriff's officer nearby on Wednesday afternoon ready to ticket anyone who did not abide by this expectation. Thank you once again!

6th GRADERS

Tuesday morning I had the opportunity to be with our sixth graders from Mrs. Broomhead’s class in art. Our art teacher was stuck in traffic, so I stayed with the class and wow, was I impressed. During announcements that morning I shared a Words of Wisdom about the power of our words. It mentioned the word think and encouraged students to THINK before they speak. THINK is an acronym for Thoughtful, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary and the K is for Kind. So during art, the sixth graders made a poster writing, Before you Speak, you should THINK and then the words. I was so impressed with how creative they were in making them. So impressed in fact, that we will display them throughout our building as a way to encourage our students to THINK before they speak!!

CONFERENCES

I end my blast this week with one more reminder - conferences are coming up soon. Yes, it is almost October and that means conference week. Conferences will be held the week of October 9th with a good amount of them occurring on Wednesday and Thursday evenings of that week. Sign-ups will be coming out soon, so please sign up for a day and time when it is sent out. This will be your opportunity to hear about celebrations so far this year as well as goals for your kiddos.

Enjoy this once again beautiful weekend.

COFFEE CART -

We run a coffee cart at our school that is put on by our Significant Support Needs Program (SSN). We have the Coffee Cart every Thursday morning from 8:15-9:15. We serve all staff around the school hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and seasonal items. We also have fresh baked goods that we serve to the staff as well.

We would like to open it up to families to purchase Coffee Cards ($20 for 11 beverages) and Baked Good Cards ($10 for 10 slices of baked goods) for staff all around the school. You are able to do this through MySchoolBucks and make a note for who the card(s) are for.

The Coffee Card raises money for the SSN program as well as for Freedom Service Dogs. Last year we raised over $400 for this organization. We are hoping to reach a goal of over $500 this school year. Thank you for all the support to give our students success!
