News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

My wife and I are headed to the southern mountains for one more RV trip this season. I look forward to enjoying a cup of chai tea in the early morning while sitting outside our fifth wheel, observing and listening to the sounds of nature!!

Our PRIDE Skill next week is: Adaptability

This week I will mention the following:

  • Specials

  • Donuts with Grownups

  • Cougar Pride Awards

  • All Pro Dads Breakfast

  • Apple Awards

SPECIALS

I was visiting classrooms on Monday and it was so cool to see Ms. Müller teaching art in connection with music. She does this each Monday with her classes. We have such wonderful specials teachers who work so closely together to provide such amazing specials time for our students.

DONUTS WITH GROWNUPS

I have been announcing Donuts with Grownups each morning this week, so I bet it will be a wonderful turnout. It begins at 7:45 tomorrow morning and this is a great opportunity to spend some time with your kiddos and chat with other grownups!! A huge thank you to our amazing CMEA group for hosting this get-together. I look forward to seeing many of you and having a donut, well maybe two!!

ALL PRO DADS BREAKFAST

Mentioning the above made me think of our first All Pro Dad’s Breakfast gathering for this school year. We are looking at hosting our first one on Thursday, November 16th beginning at 7:30 a.m. This is also the week of the book fair, so we will spend some time enjoying a pancake and sausage breakfast, share a few words, and then head to the book fair. Please email me if you are able to help prepare breakfast. My email is [email protected].

COUGAR PRIDE AWARDS

One of the things that brings me the greatest joy at school is when I see a student walking up to the office to turn in a Cougar Pride Award. I will always say how awesome it is and then ask why they earned their award. They always have a huge smile, no matter what grade. Then my Friday mornings, top off my joy bucket as we announce one student in each grade who had previously earned a Cougar Pride Award. I love calling home with the students and will often hear you say how proud you are of your children.

APPLE AWARDS

It is that time of year when we nominate outstanding and deserving CME staff members for an Apple Award. Click on this link to nominate one or more staff members. Go to this website

Our staff members love receiving an Apple Award nomination and we always place your nomination on a nice certificate, then staff members display them proudly. It only takes a few minutes to nominate a wonderful CME staff member, but the memory of your effort will last a lifetime for the employee.

Enjoy what looks to be another beautiful weekend!!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS - 3rd - 6th -

Battle of the Books is a club for 3rd through 6th graders who love to read. It is sponsored by the Douglas County Public Library. We will meet each Friday morning at 7:45 am, in Ms. Hollist's classroom at CME. Our first meeting is October 27 (we meet each Friday morning until February/March) The kids each read 10 books from a list provided by the public library. They also write questions about the books. Each week we talk about the books, play games, and learn/remember ALL the details about the books. In late January/early February, we begin to battle. Each week our team of 5 kids goes up against a team of 5 from another school to answer questions about all the books they read. Questions are in the format "In which book did _________ happen." Battles are once a week, in the evening, at the Lone Tree Library. The official battle schedule will be published soon.

This is a super fun way to meet other kids who love to read, read books you may not have chosen to read, become a better reader and to talk about books, which we all love to do!

If your child is interested, it’s time to start reading! There is one for 3/4th graders and a different list for 5/6th graders, so please make sure you have the correct list. The books can be checked out at the public library or, of course, purchased on Amazon. To officially sign up, please plan to attend the meeting on October 27th at 7:45 am in Ms Hollist's classroom (parents welcome to the first meeting, not required to attend). Please let Emily Hollist know if you have any questions ([email protected]).

COFFEE CART -

We run a coffee cart at our school that is put on by our Significant Support Needs Program (SSN). We have the Coffee Cart every Thursday morning from 8:15-9:15. We serve all staff around the school hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate and seasonal items. We also have fresh baked goods that we serve to the staff as well.

We would like to open it up to families to purchase Coffee Cards ($20 for 11 beverages) and Baked Good Cards ($10 for 10 slices of baked goods) for staff all around the school. You are able to do this through MySchoolBucks and make a note for who the card(s) are for.

The Coffee Card raises money for the SSN program as well as for Freedom Service Dogs. Last year we raised over $400 for this organization. We are hoping to reach a goal of over $500 this school year. Thank you for all the support to give our students success!
