News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

Looks like the weather will be perfect for Field Day tomorrow and our community gathering on Sunday. And speaking of perfect - I have to brag a little about our lawn. I fertilized before the big rain one weekend and the grass is looking pretty green!!

This week I will mention the following:

  • Clothing Donations

  • Band/Orchestra Concert

  • Choir Concert

  • Wax Museum

  • Field Day

  • EPR’s

CLOTHING DONATION

I just registered Copper Mesa for a clothing collection challenge. The USAgain clothing containers in our parking lot are the spot to drop off clothes your family no longer wears. The challenge runs from June 1-30th. Cash prizes will be awarded!! So begin going through your closets!! I know I will!

BAND/ORCHESTRA CONCERT

While I was unable to attend our band/orchestra concert because of a prior commitment, I heard it was outstanding. Congratulations to all of our students who play an instrument. I have heard them several times practicing before school and they are outstanding! I also listened to a song the orchestra played to our fifth graders one morning and I was so impressed!!

CHOIR CONCERT

I was able to attend both the school and evening performances from our amazing choir, under the direction of Ms. Abby Muller. They performed several songs for our students and parents. I especially loved the songs they sang about saying goodbye to our sixth graders and me. They also presented me with a heart with every student's fingerprint on it. I will keep and treasure this beautiful heart forever!!

WAX MUSEUM

It’s the time of year again that our third graders become famous Americans in what is called the Wax Museum. Our students selected a famous American to learn and write about. Then it concluded today with our third graders dressed up as the famous American they selected. It was so cool to see them share about the person they chose. Check out some of the photos!

FIELD DAY

As I mentioned in my opening sentence, the weather looks to be ideal for our Field Day tomorrow. This is always one of the highlights for all of our students. A huge shout-out to Mr. Novak, our wonderful PE teacher for making this happen. I look forward to seeing all the smiles and laughs of our students as they participate in the various activities! Please ensure your children wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle!

EPR’S

You will soon be able to view your child’s final Elementary Progress Report (EPR) of the year. On Saturday, May 25th, our district will release EPR’s district-wide. To view your child’s EPR follow the directions below. I hope that 100% of EPR’s will be viewed. Your children have worked so hard this second semester and I am sure that there is a lot to celebrate. The best way to understand their growth and accomplishments is to check out their EPR’s!

You will log in through the EngagED Parent Portal at engaged.dcsdk12.orgYou will log in using the same username and password that you have created in Infinite Campus/Parent Portal, but please see the reminder below about the new format for your username. If you need to remember your username and/or password, please visit: https://www.dcsdk12.org/identity-management to request a username reminder and/or to reset your password.

Reminder for DUO: the district's new implementation of DUO requires parents to use the following format: enter your username and @p.dcsdk12.org in the field marked Email Address (e.g. [email protected]) and your district password in the field marked Password on the login screen. This will be my final lengthy blast of the year and my time at Copper Mesa. I will write a short blast (for me!!) next week. It has been my pleasure and honor to write about all the awesome things that happen at Copper Mesa each week. CME is a fabulous school, with awesome teachers, students, and of course all of you!! I have been honored to be the principal at Copper Mesa since 2016. You all will be close to my heart and the memories will last forever!!

FIELD DAY 5/17/24 - Wear sunscreen and bring water

Due to inclement weather predictions and the concern for the field being wet, we have decided to postpone Field Day. Our make up date is Friday, May 17th. If you have signed up to volunteer, Mr. Novak will be contacting you directly whether or not you are available for the make up date. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Late July, we will be sending out an email to announce who your student’s teacher will be. In order to find out this information you will need to sign into your parent portal EngagED account.
