News from Steve

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

I am currently spending time with my dad as he enjoys his lunch this Tuesday afternoon. Although I am away for the day, I am confident that great things are happening at CME, thanks to the amazing staff and students. I have always emphasized the significance of cherishing your family, and I am grateful I can do that right now!

Our PRIDE Skill for next week is: Self-Awareness

This week I will mention the following:

  • February 16th PD Day

  • Lockdown Drill

  • American Heart Association

  • SORA Superstar Award

FEBRUARY 16th PD DAY

Our Professional Development Day last Friday began with a keynote speaker. The speaker had the staff from all the ThunderRidge and Mountain Vista elementary schools in tears, laughter, and a time of reflection as he encouraged us to think about what story we would want to tell about ourselves. Then teachers had a multitude of classes to choose from. It was a wonderful day of learning and collaborating!

LOCKDOWN DRILL

Yesterday we had our second and final lockdown drill of this year. Our staff and students received very positive feedback from the law enforcement officers and our district security personnel who visited rooms to ensure proper placement of staff and students. I am so thankful that DCSD puts the safety of our students first!!

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION HEART CHALLENGE

I heard this morning that we reached our goal of raising $10,000 for the American Heart Association. That is amazing, knowing that we also recently had Wish Week. Our CME Community is awesome - a huge thank you for supporting this organization and physical education! I know that Mr. Novak is excited to turn into a human disco ball!!

SORA SUPERSTAR AWARD

One more way that makes Copper Mesa such a special place. Mrs. Troxel, our wonderful librarian, shared that CME has earned 2nd place honors for the SORA Superstar Award for 2023. What this means is that we have increased our use of the online book circulation with CME having the second highest circulation of all elementary schools in our district! A huge shout out to Mrs.Troxel, our teachers, students, and all of you for encouraging the love of reading!!

Enjoy what looks to be a beautiful weekend!!

HEART CHALLENGE -

Heartfelt thanks to the Copper Mesa Elementary students who've learned Hands-Only CPR during Kids Heart Challenge, earned characters delivering heart-healthy messages, and are spreading awareness through texts, emails, and social media!

Our goal is to raise $10,000 donations so we can help the American Heart Association and earn PE equipment for our school. As of 2/19/2024 we've raised $9,488 donations towards our goal!

Want to help? Sign up, donate or get a donation, and complete Finn’s Mission!

Download the free app for iPhone or Android, or online: http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=9733&pg=company&company_id=438111.

Any student who raises $50 will qualify to purchase discounted tickets and get a special ON COURT experience with the Denver Nuggets! The classes who earn the most money and have the highest online participation will earn a free play day in PE! AND when you complete Finn's Mission, you can attend a special pizza party with Mr. Novak!!! When students raise $150, they will get to turn Mr. Novak into a Human Disco Ball with glitter slime!!!

Congratulations to the following students who have already earned our school’s challenge: Cameron N , Benson O , Jack G , Hadley P , Paxton T , Mila D , Marlow H , Caleb M , Davis C , Ayden C , Cary Q , Noah S , Sophia N , Joshua M , Gavin C , Riley B , Charlotte B , Christian G , Maddox N.

Inspire Others. "Being someone who can save a life, that's a superpower if you ask me" - Damar Hamlin. See what he says about knowing CPR. Completing Finn’s Mission is the way to inspire friends and family to get healthier, learn CPR, and to spot a stroke.
