NEWS FROM STEVE

Dear Copper Mesa Community,

One more day until Fall Break! Can you sense the excitement in my first sentence!! My wife and I are headed to Texas to spend some time with my dad and the kids. I hope no matter what you do that you have a fantastic break. Enjoy the extra time with your children!

Our PRIDE Skill after Fall Break will be: Perseverance

This week I will mention the following:

  • Apple Award Nominations

  • Fire Prevention Week

  • DCSD Community Toiletry Drive

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

  • All Pro Dad’s Breakfast

  • CMEA survey

APPLE AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominate an outstanding staff member today! Be sure to click on the link to the left to be routed to Copper Mesa’s nomination page. This is such a kind way to recognize a deserving CME staff member. You can nominate both certified teachers and classified staff members for an Apple Award.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

This week has been Fire Prevention Week. South Metro Fire Rescue has provided some activities you can do at home to stress the importance of having a plan in case of an emergency in your home. Click here to see how you can help your kiddos learn about fire prevention. It is always important to have these discussions with your children. We also practiced an evacuation drill at school this week so our staff and students are prepared in case of a fire.

DCSD DISTRICT-WIDE COMMUNITY TOILETRY DRIVE

Check out this flyer for information about our school district's toiletry drive. Caring for others is a major theme of our district, One Book, One District Selection, Becoming a Good Creature, what a cool thing our district is doing. Our Student Leadership Team will be organizing the supplies to donate! You can start bringing them in tomorrow!!

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Thank you for taking the time to visit with your kiddo(s) teacher(s) for parent/teacher conferences. Hopefully the time spent was beneficial and you learned how your children are doing since the beginning of the school year and next steps for them. Thank you also to our CMEA and all of you for providing lunch, snacks and to Melissa Park’s company, Resource Group REMAX Leaders, for providing dinner on Wednesday night.

ALL PRO DADS BREAKFAST

In my last Blast I mentioned that our first All Pro Dads Breakfast gathering would be held on Thursday, November 16th, however, we are hosting the breakfast on Friday, November 17th beginning at 7:30 am. Please add the new date to your calendar and we hope to see all of our wonderful CME dads and kiddos in attendance!! Also, please email me at [email protected] if you are able to help out with preparing our meal.

CMEA SURVEY

If you haven’t had the opportunity to complete the CMEA survey sharing how you feel our fundraising dollars should be spent, I encourage you to do so. There is a link on their newsletter which is also attached to the email.

Have a wonderful Fall Break!!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS - 3rd - 6th -

Battle of the Books is a club for 3rd through 6th graders who love to read. It is sponsored by the Douglas County Public Library. We will meet each Friday morning at 7:45 am, in Ms. Hollist's classroom at CME. Our first meeting is October 27 (we meet each Friday morning until February/March) The kids each read 10 books from a list provided by the public library. They also write questions about the books. Each week we talk about the books, play games, and learn/remember ALL the details about the books. In late January/early February, we begin to battle. Each week our team of 5 kids goes up against a team of 5 from another school to answer questions about all the books they read. Questions are in the format "In which book did _________ happen." Battles are once a week, in the evening, at the Lone Tree Library. The official battle schedule will be published soon.

This is a super fun way to meet other kids who love to read, read books you may not have chosen to read, become a better reader and to talk about books, which we all love to do!

If your child is interested, it’s time to start reading! There is one for 3/4th graders and a different list for 5/6th graders, so please make sure you have the correct list. The books can be checked out at the public library or, of course, purchased on Amazon. To officially sign up, please plan to attend the meeting on October 27th at 7:45 am in Ms Hollist's classroom (parents welcome to the first meeting, not required to attend). Please let Emily Hollist know if you have any questions ([email protected]).
